The Map Window constitutes the bulk of the interface (by area) and is where spatial data for each view is displayed. The Map Window is generally LIVE, meaning it can be interrogated by clicking (in various tool modes) as well as by simply moving the mouse.

Such interrogation is displayed in the status bar and, if desired, the Links Window.
