Taking Your Certificates To The Community - Direct

The majority of Councils using waterRIDE are running automated flood certificate/report systems.

These systems are proving to be great time savers whilst allowing organisations to offer a higher level of service in terms of the quality and detail in information provided.

Expanding on this service, some Councils have taken to making their flood certificates available online, 24x7.

With a hosted waterRIDE CLOUD subscription, an existing flood certificates system is only a step away from being converted into a self-help community flood portal.

But what are the benefits of making such information available to all?

One of the primary benefits is the volume of requests that can be processed in any given day.

Cameron Druery presented a paper on Lismore City Councils system at the 2024 FMA Conference in Brisbane.

During the presentation, he highlighted some key usage statistics showing that a peak of 30 certificates had been issued in one day, against a long term average of 6-7 certificates per day.

The capacity and flexibility of an automated system to accommodate significant fluctuations in demand provides consistency to both Council and the Community, as well as maintaining the ability to respond to requests even during times of abnormally high demand, such as when a new flood study is adopted.

Lismore City Council - Community Facing Flood Information Portal

The 24x7 nature of an automated online portal means that a certificate (or even access to flood data) is available at all times and allows the community to address their flooding concerns
"on demand", such as when exploring a prospective property purchase or planning a renovation outside of business hours.

In common with the standard certificates framework, any changes made to datasets or the certificate template itself are instantly reflected in certificates generated from that point onwards. This provides tremendous flexibility to update, enhance and revise specific components of the certificate, or to seamlessly expand coverage with additional flood studies.

To extend an existing flood certificates system to the community, all that is needed is a waterRIDE LITE subscription (hosted waterRIDE CLOUD required), and a small setup fee (less than 1 day).

Whilst not desirable for all organisations, it presents a very efficient and effective means of getting  usable flood data to the community.

New Training Module: Build-Your-Own Forecasting System

We are excited to introduce an often asked for training module on flood forecasting in waterRIDE.

In this fully hands-on session attendees will learn how to build and effective flood forecasting system using readily available datasets.

Topics covered include:
   - preparing flood surfaces
   - building a system
   - adding flooding intelligence
   - adding reporting
   - sensitivity and scenario analysis
   - real-time hydrology
   - rainfall gauge analysis
   - forecast rainfall datasets
   - soil moisture and impact on losses
   - publishing, archiving and distributing forecasts
   - integration with waterRIDE LITE

As this is an advanced course, there is assumed knowledge of waterRIDE. Attendees new to waterRIDE are encouraged to attend the View, Essentials and Flood Intelligence modules prior to attending.

Full details of all training modules are available in the training section of this website.
