It is with a great sense of satisfaction that we learnt that Narrabri Shire Council (NSC) won the prestigious LGNSW Planning Award for its Community Facing Flood Portal.
NSC approached the waterRIDE team with a goal of providing the community with simple, accessible, and interactive access to Councils flood information.
The portal provides acess to planning flood layers (100yr and PMF), as well Councils Flood Risk Category mapping, and is accessible from any device.
Extending beyond a map, the community can click on any location(s) in the floodplain and return live depth and water level values.
The system can be accessed directly from the waterRIDE link on Councils website.
Users can navigate to a property using the map, or simply enter an address.
As the surface is live, users can click at any location and the flood level/depth is read directly from Councils flood data, ensuring complete consistency between the datasets Council use.
Ultimately, the tool provides the NSC community with straightforward and clear access to Councils official flooding information.
Many waterRIDE CLOUD customers are utilising waterRIDE LITE's simple interface to expand the reach and usability of their flooding data.
From accessing design flood information, to flood forecasting dashboards and even custom reports, organisations are leveraging their flood data to empower officers in the field as well as those sitting at their computers.
By creating a "private" link to waterRIDE LITE (password protected), organisations are able to access information from any device, without any app installation.
Whilst not as powerful or feature-rich as waterRIDE CLOUD, waterRIDE LITE provides an extremely fast and simplified user experience, with data literally at your fingertips.
Customers are currently running systems to provide access to:
- All design flood information when meeting onsite
- Google StreetView imagery when meeting with the community
- Forecast flood information including:
- expected flood mapping
- forecast rainfall
- flood intelligence
- reporting
- Their automated flood certificates system
- Planning layers
As all datasets are live, linking directly to Councils waterRIDE CLOUD projects, it provides a consistent means of accessing flooding data, literally from anywhere.
Such portals can be setup in a little as a day, providing a very efficient means of "taking your flood data with you".
