Flood modelling is a highly technical and complex process, involving significant time and resources.
Traditionally, model results are provided to Government Agencies as reports (both hard and soft copy), and usually as processed, static GIS surfaces. Whilst this information is valuable, it is usually difficult to digest and is of restricted use in day to day operations, with significant value left “idle” in the raw model outputs.
Often, the end users of the outputs of the flood modelling process do not always have a flood modelling background or skills in the modelling software, and hence the raw model results are frequently not used.
However, there is a wealth of information available in the underlying model results, including the entire time-varying flood behaviour!
At it’s most basic level, the waterRIDE™ environment was designed to allow users to “get at” their datasets, irrespective of the users “technical” background. Why should you need to be a flood modeller to access the flood modelling results you paid for?
At a more sophisticated level, the waterRIDE™ environment provides a powerful means for understanding the impact of the modelling (ie how does this flood modelling affect the community?).
The team of engineering programmers and flood modellers at WorleyParsons have developed waterRIDE™ FLOOD Manager (and Viewer) to provide users with a dedicated floodplain management tool for interrogating their full time-varying model results set from any model, in a live GIS system, a feature unique to the waterRIDE™ environment.
It allows government agencies to leverage their investment in, and to get more value from their floodplain modelling results, regardless of the model type used.
